New YouTube Channel, Tour and More

First, TONS of love to everyone who attended the Magic Band farewell tour in the UK! It was a truly special experience with a great group of people. We're still on track for a European farewell tour, but no dates have been confirmed yet.

I've recently launched my new YouTube channel, Eric Plays 8-String! Visit the page for lessons, reviews, and everything else related to playing the 8 string guitar. I'll be uploading content regularly, and I plan to introduce a Patreon program for lessons in the next month or so.

Finally, I'm happy to announce that the Android Trio will be touring the west coast of the US to promote our new album, Road Songs. What's more, we'll be joined by the incredible, NYC-based saxophonist James Brandon Lewis! We'll be playing music from across all of our catalogues, plus a few surprises! Full tour dates coming soon!

Fall 2017 Update- The Final MB UK Tour!

Coming off the heels of a highly successful concert at the Zappanale Festival in Germany, the future of The Magic Band was in question. Now, we have an answer.

November 2017 will mark the final tour of The Magic Band in the UK.

The final lineup of the band is: John "Drumbo" French (Vox, Sax, Harmonica, Drums), Andy Niven (Drums), Max Kutner (Guitar), Jonathan Sindelman (Keyboards) and Eric Klerks (8-string Guitar).

A final European tour is being discussed, but no details are available as of October 2017.

Please visit the Concerts page for more details.

Movies, Records, Gigs and more...

The last year or so has been full of transitions. The end of the Grandmothers and an uncertain future for the Magic Band effectively closed a chapter in my life as a touring musician. I'm still touring with the incredible Hamed Nikpay- we played some memorable shows in Canada, Dubai and the USA last year- and I look forward to continuing with him. The Magic Band played what was apparently it's final show at Zappanale in Germany last July, which was a wonderful experience as always.

Meanwhile, I've been working on several new projects. I've participated in a number of recording sessions for different artists and I'll announce those records as they're released. I'll also be touring with some of those artists. Again, details as they become official. I also spent several months writing orchestrations for a feature length animated film, Bunyan And Babe, which is out now.

Finally, I've been working on my own projects. First is a jazz/rock/soul band called Western State, which is a collaboration with my dear friends Zoe Poledouris and Angel Roche. We'll have an EP out in May along with concerts in the near future. I'm also writing music for a trio project, as well as music in the Magic Band vein to feature some special guests; I hope to have everything recorded by the end of the year. I'm building a new 8-string guitar specifically for this music, which should be interesting.

As always, I continue to offer private lessons in Los Angeles and via Skype/Facetime. Please visit the Lessons page for more information.

Thanks for checking in, please visit the Concerts page for the latest dates!

2016 News!

A few announcements:

- From my Facebook page: "Received an email on Thursday from the Grandmothers of Invention; they've decided to continue as a trio and my services are no longer needed. I'm thankful to have met so many fans and friends during my tenure, and I hope to continue to work with Frank's music in other capacities in the future!" Thanks to everyone who has expressed their support during this time, it's appreciated.

- After a wonderful reception in the UK, The Magic Band is working on booking more concerts, specifically in the UK and Europe. Watch this space in the coming days for more information.

- Western State, a new Los Angeles-based project, is recording an EP and working on soundtrack material for a film. More info to come...

- I'm currently writing music for a new project, featuring members of The Magic Band. Look for a late Summer release.

- Finally, I'd like to highly recommend Italia Leather Straps. Handcrafted in California, these are custom straps of the highest quality and are extremely comfortable. I'm using my custom Nero/Rosso fixed-length straps on my Jericho Guitars Fusion 8-string exclusively.

Thanks for visiting and stay tuned!

David Bowie

Last night, the news rolled in. David Bowie had died.

I'd spent the weekend home sick with the flu, digging deep into my copy of Blackstar. It's a brilliant record full of the mystery, grandeur, grace and intimacy that inevitably set Bowie so high in the pantheon of truly singular, world-class artists. If you haven't heard it, go and put it on right now.

Bowie and his music have been a massive influence on my own work since I was a kid. His final artistic statements, Blackstar and its two accompanying videos, are incredible parting gifts from a true genius.

It's difficult to put words together right now, so I'll just say, "Thank you, David."

Eric will NOT be appearing for the Grandmothers Of Invention 2015 Europe/UK tour

From Facebook:

I'm guessing most of my friends in the Zappa/GMOI universe saw Max Kutner's post this morning, and I'd like to confirm that I'm not going to be present for the GMOI Europe/UK tour either. Really disappointed that it couldn't happen this time, but the circumstances are what they are. Lots of love to my friends and the fans, hope to see you all next time... Next stop, November in the UK with The Magic Band!
